4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. – Ephesians 2:4-10
In the United States, interest in the lottery has never been higher.
That’s because the jackpot has never been higher.
If one person wins the lottery this week, they will become as rich as all the countries on the planet, save 9!
$1.3 billion dollars.
That kind of money is inconceivable to nearly everyone.
It might be fun to image what you could do with that kind of money. Pay off all your debt, and all the debt of all your family and friends.
Live anywhere on the planet, in any kind of house you wanted.
Drive any kind of car you wanted and pretty much as many cars as you want.
You would be set, financially, for life. As would your children and your children’s children. You would never have to work again. You would be able to get to work, doing whatever kind of work you wanted without having to worry about earning enough money make ends meet.
Yes, that’s a little fun to imagine. And who knows, it may be God’s will that one of you will experience this.
But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus as Savior already has more than the current lottery jackpot. St. Paul calls it “immeasurable riches of his grace.”
Our salvation from sin, death, and the devil through the shed blood of Jesus Christ is worth more – and does more – than even the billions offered in the current lottery.
And God is calling us to start living like it is. Instead of dreaming about what we could do with that lottery jackpot, we should already be living it, because we have been given immeasurable more in Christ Jesus!
